CB specifications E to L.
Emission
Method used to place your voice onto the 27 MHz signal.
Only
FM is legal
in the UK.
AM and
SSB are illegal for CB
in the UK.
Frequency deviation
See Deviation, above.
Frequency range
Details of the upper and lower limit of frequencies covered by the radio.
Legal UK only band: 27.60125MHz - 27.99125MHz.
Legal European band: 26.965MHz - 27.405MHz.
Legal UK dual band: 26.965MHz - 27.405MHz and 27.60125MHz to 27.99125MHz.
Frequency response
How well the transmit sound circuits respond to the different frequencies
from the microphone. A wider range is better.
Frequency tolerance
This is the amount by which the radio may be off frequency. The maximum
tolerance is set by law, and manufacturers must meet that standard to
have a
CB approved for sale
in the
UK .
A lower percentage is better.
IF
Intermediate Frequency (see
Conversion system), the frequency which
the 27MHz signal is converted down to. For a dual conversion superhet, there
will be two intermediate frequencies. Common standards are around 10.7MHz and
455KHz.
IF rejection
How well the
CB can reject a
signal on the intermediate frequency. A higher
dB figure is better.
Image rejection
How well the
CB can reject a
signal on the image frequency. A higher
dB figure is better.
Low power
Older UK
CB radios had a low
power switch. This is the amount of power output when this is switched to low.
