Copyright.

Why copyright?
The purpose of copyright is to ensure that those who invest time and money creating works can receive a fair return for their investment and effort. It also ensures that they can stop the leaches of society who would happily make money from other people's hard work.
The concept of intellectual property rights also covers trade marking, which protects against use of a name or brand that the owner considers detrimental and likely to cause them harm.
We all need money to survive, you cannot take goodwill to the bank or buy your groceries with it. Without copyrights and sufficient enforcement, those who invest time and money would not see a return of their investment. Those who spend time and money creating trust in their brand could find that good name destroyed by the acts of other people.

Restricted acts.
Restricted acts are those which cannot be performed without permission (license) from the copyright owner. These include:
Reproduction. This involves making copies in any format, including electronic forms.
Distribution. Anyone making copies available to the public is distributing.
Public display or performance. This can include placing printed copies in a public area, as well as giving speeches and lectures.
Passing off. Falsely claiming something as being the product or work of a named person or organization.
Modification or derivative works. Making changes to the work or using any part of the copyright material within other work.

Moral rights.
Moral rights protect the author or creator of work, giving them certain rights which cannot be transferred or sold. Some such rights only apply if moral rights have been asserted (confirmed or demanded) by the creator of the work.
The right to be named as author can be important to both the author and the public. People who liked one piece of work by a person may look for more by that same person. Being named helps the public to find more that they like, and it helps the creator of the work to sell future work. Also, when looking for work, previous work forms part of a CV.

Implications.
By visiting this web site, you are receiving copies of copyright works and making a copy in electric form. That copy will be in the computer memory and possibly also on the hard drive.
All servers between the web site and your system, including your ISP, are distributing the copyright material. As the content passes through their systems, they may also be making copies.
Automated services, such as search engines and archivers, are receiving and saving portions of copyright material.

Linking to us.
Linking between sites form the basis of the internet - they are what makes the Web work. We welcome links from other sites, as long as it is clear that there is no association or affiliation between us and the linking site.
You may use the images on our links page to identify us or link to our site, but it must be clear that there is no association or affiliation between us and the linking site.
Please link only to pages, not graphics, scripts, or other files. You may make a copy of an allowed link image on your web site, as long as it is only used for the purpose of identifying us and linking to our site.

Search engines.
Major search engines may access this site for the sole purpose of providing free and open search facilities for the internet community. We may, at any time, withdraw this permission for any or all search engines by giving such notice on this site.

Automated access.
We specifically prohibit any automated downloading, scanning and archiving except for search engines as stated above.
We also specifically prohibit any interception, scanning and site/visitor profiling activities. Service providers and other servers must pass on requested content without interception, modification or scanning of content.
Setting cookies in any way which would make them appear to have come from this site is strictly prohibited.
Advertising service providers must obtain written permission to use this site or content in any way.

Distribution.
Distribution of content, in any form, is prohibited without express written permission. This includes, but is not limited to, all printed and electronic formats.
Servers distributing content to fulfill a request from an internet user or automated service must pass the content on without any interception, modification, scanning or setting cookies which could appear to have come from this site.

Phorm.
Phorm, their partners and associates are specifically prohibited from using the content of this site in any way. They may NOT use their servers for crawling, spidering, scanning, profiling and all other activities on this site. ISPs and all distributing servers must pass the content on to the visitor without any interception or modification.
The services provided by Phorm (spying and advertising) make use of several restricted acts, for which they have neither requested nor been given permission. If they had asked, they would have been refused permission.
We believe that, apart from their disrespect for personal privacy, their activities involve making money off the hard work of internet content providers - without obtaining permission or offering part of the profit. We spend hours, days, weeks and even years creating our sites for the visitors and ensuring visitor privacy - and companies like Phorm then make profit by intercepting site and visitor data and by selling advertising based on the information obtained.
These are the kind of leaches that copyright and data protection laws are intended to stop.

Public display.
Public performance and display are restricted acts. We specifically prohibit such activities without written permission.

Prohibited uses.
Basically, anything not specifically allowed. However, your attention is drawn to the following specific uses which will breach copyright:
  Use for business or profit.
  Modification.

Hot linking.
Although copyright law may not have been written to allow for internet linking, the basics still apply. Linking to content of another site in a way that makes is appear to be part of your site, without permission, may constitute "passing off" and infringe moral rights.
Use of our site content as part of other sites or products, without written permission, is prohibited. Anyone wishing to feature content from this site in any document or Web site, or make copies of site content MUST obtain the permission of the copyright owner and respect all moral rights.
For information about any specific content, please contact the Webmaster. Remember to state what content you are interested in and what you want to know or do.
